Harvest Time in the Heartland

The combines are out across the heartland...and depending on where you live it may just be slow going!

For many, this is a favorite time of year. The kids are back in school, high school football fields light up on Friday nights and families enjoy evening hay-rack rides.

The crisp, cool air that awakens the senses and invigorates the soul. It is definitely my favorite season. Give me a nice hot bowl of chili on a cool Saturday afternoon and I'm in heaven.

When I was a kid they sold "deer whistles" that people attached to their front car or truck bumpers. They were sold as a way to keep deer (which are out in full force this time of year) out of your way. Hard to prove of course...never did see any deer running away with their hooves over their ears.

Is this your favorite time of year? What are some of your favorite fall memories?

BTW - keep an eye out for farm implements when driving in rural areas! They'll be out at night and can be hard to see.
